Roots Bamboo Beach Resort ★★★

Lovely basic room right on the beach. Cafe/restaurant next door.

I was so excited. But then 9pm came. Roots Cafe holds live Reggae performance nights on Mon and Wed and my booking was Mon/Tue/Wed nights. The stage for the performance is about 20ft from the room door and it was LOUD. I don't mean slightly annoying loud, I mean full concert stage sound system, can't hear yourself think loud. I complained to the manager who could have said "tough luck" but didn't. Proactively he and (I presume) his wife who (I presume) have a few hotels along the beach offered me another room close to the beach at another hotel they own. It's no where near as nice a room and I've not heard a word about compensation but it could have been worse. Still had a great time on the beach every day and I love Negril. It's a special place.

- vendors - real pushy importunate beggars in the whole area (especially on the street after 6 when the rum starts to work) and even at the Roots Cafe

There is no WIFI in the rooms or on the property. You have to come to the front office to get reception. The food was cooked fresh to order and delivered in a timely fashion. Security was tight. For 1 night it was well worth it for the price. Definitely a place to stay with friends.

Not getting WIFi i kept missing important calls. Other than that no problems..

Great location on Seven Mile Beach, friendly staff. Restaurant is good and right across the street from The Jungle nightclub

We stayed in a seaview suite and the WiFi was non-existent. One of the nights was a concert evening, so music played loudly across from the room until 2 am.

The environment was extremely (and I cannot underscore it enough) loud. The cabins are great, but the walls are made of paper. There are also many bars around (including the roots bamboo itself), and when they have bands playing, don't expect to sleep before 2am, even with earplugs due to bass.

I thought the staff was great. I've stayed at Roots for years, when it was only cabins with no indoor plumbing and maybe a tiny, if any bar on the beach. Roots Bamboo has definitely upgraded, however, that makes it harder for the budget traveler to stay there.

I really can't say there was anything i didn't like.

Great location on the beach good value. Excellent cleaning staff, rooms kept exceptionally clean.nice size rooms and bathroom. Denise manager of the property is very helpful.

Very noisy most nights from other places like jungle party nights and Woodstock

The price

Any person from anywhere can walk right thru the resort, the bartenders/ owners are super rude. Ragae band every Monday, Wednesday, Friday where the paying guests of the resort were excluded from all amenities unless we paid the cover charge to get in of $25. We had to go to a different bar to get drinks. Friends got stuck in a room In the parking lot, where their room was completely forgot about for cleaning, blankets, towels etc. For 4 days and when asked they were annoyed and rude about it. After the bands were over the majority of the time locals, band members would party in the parking lot and on the porch of paying resort customers while trying to sleep. One morning lasted they parties til 8am! The resort staff said there was nothing they could do even know its considered "private property". Probably won't stay here again. I guess the price was right for how we were treated.

I liked the location, I liked the private rooms(luxury room near the beach). I liked that the owner upgraded us for free after we checked in, done because they double booked the room we booked online at booking.com. I liked that they were willing to own the mistake and fix it, I chose this place from the good customer reviews and from my own local knowledge of the place, not all hotels on the strip are equal. This one is a bit above many of it's competitors, it's well known for being clean and safe.

For starters, the staff failed to notice our booking, so when we arrived there was no room ready, and they had no idea we had booked with them. We booked in the morning, so when we got there in the afternoon, we expected to have a seamless check in after a long hot road trip. It took an hour of waiting outside the office for them to settle the issue. They had booked our room to someone else, and wanted to upgrade us at a charge, which we quickly replied that we would accept the upgrade for free due to the errors on their part, and the wait. They agreed to do it, but this hotel is owned by a brother-sister, they each own part and charge for their personally owned rooms accordingly, never mentioned online at all(the rates and payment methods are also different according to which sibling's cabins you rent). Also, the rooms shown may not be the one you get, many of the rooms are the cheaper ones w/o Air conditioning and shared bathrooms, not mentioned online either. I wanted to pay online, they wanted to do business off the booking.com site, something I don't prefer, too shady, too much room for manipulation of the customer. The room was nice, really clean, but the door lock is broken and could easily be forced open, in fact I saw evidence on the door that leads me to think that is how the dook lock became broken, someone forced it open, the locks need to be solid for me to feel secure, my room at Sunset on the Beach was robbed 3 years ago, the key/lock issue was the reason... The security of the room door is extremely important to the guest, fix for the next people PLEASE! I like this place, and will stay again, but I feel that the staff could have been a bit more helpful( took about 20 minutes to get a cup of coffee in the morning, way too long of a wait, have coffee already made in the bar for a price). The restaurant and bar are a split service, a lady at a small table runs the restaurant.

Steps to the beach! Staff would look after things needed not have to call or check with someone, whether housekeeping, front desk, or restaurant. As this time was the Bob Marley Music Festival we had some great bands to listen to.

Need a few more beach chairs.
